St Vincent's Catholic Primary School

Consultation - New Autism Resource Base

Consultation on a New Autism Resource Base at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School

What Is Proposed?

We are considering opening a 14-place Autism Resource Base at St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School.

If approved, it would open during the 2026–27 school year, with children starting from Spring 2027.

Why Is This Needed?

More children in Birmingham need specialist support for autism. This Resource Base would:

  • Provide more local specialist places
  • Help children access support while staying in a mainstream school
  • Reduce travel for families
  • Strengthen inclusion at St Vincent’s

The Resource Base would be open to children of all faiths and backgrounds who are placed there by Birmingham City Council.

What Is an Autism Resource Base?

A Resource Base is specialist support within a mainstream school.

Children would:

  • Learn in a calm, supportive environment
  • Receive help from trained staff
  • Spend time in both the Resource Base and mainstream classes, depending on their needs
  • Be full members of the school community

Where Would It Be?

The Resource Base would be in the former Nursery building on the St Vincent’s site. The building has its own entrance, outdoor space and links to the main school.
